Artist Residency in New Mexico
Starry Night Retreat
Welcome fans! It’s been almost a week since I have been here in Truth or Consequences, NM and it has been an amazing experience so far. I have traveled around this small town to soak in the culture and arts of the Southwest during my artist residency. The food here is amazing and would recommend to visit the little restaurants in town from “Passion Pie” to “Latitude 33”. If you like your food hot, make sure you have the green and red chilies! Especially Hatch chilies. Amazing!
Beside food, I have look at the culture around the town, which is different from St. Louis, MO. Instead of seeing rows of trees, you see rows of mountains and deserts. Yes it is very hot and dry here, so if you get burnt easily. I highly recommend to bring sunscreen!
The other thing you will notice when you are in Truth or Consequences, NM is the quietness of the town. Instead of the hustle and bustle of everyday traffic down HWY 270 in St. Louis, MO, you find few cars humming around HWY 25 in NM. I see more people walking or biking to the local stores instead of using cars. It’s a different culture and town here, but I am appreciating it fully!
As an artist you have to take time for yourself to become engross in your work again. Sometimes the only way that happens is taking yourself out of your normal lifestyle to something completely new to you involving yourself into an Artist Residency. I will be writing a detail response to this Starry Night Residency in a week.
So as I head back to the studio to work and talk to the fellow artist in residencies, take time to get out of your normal routine you never know where it will take you.
Sounds great. We are headed that way soon.
